Clothing Map

The Clothing Map was the first ‘story rug’ that I finished in 2007. It commemorates my relationship with my mother who passed away in 2003. The clothing I used was hers, mine, a child’s embroidered shirt that she made me before we came to America, and an infinity loop of Saks Fifth Avenue garment labels. She worked in department stores – Bergdorf Goodman, Arnold Constable, Saks, selling fashions for most of her life, and I ended up teaching fashion design for most of mine. I never thought of the connection till I made this map. A QR code links this piece to a video that maps my journey to America.
